Yorkshire 3 Peaks
This is a fantastic days walking in the Pennines following a route totalling 24.5 miles (39.2 k) and climbs over 5000 feet through some of the most rugged and spectacular countryside in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
The three Peaks are Pen-y- Ghent 694m, Whernside 736m and Ingleborough 723m. They are usually completed in a continuous loop and the allocated time is 12 hours.
The challenge is demanding but highly rewarding and to cater for as many levels of fitness as possible we have developed two areas of participation:
- 3 Peakers who want to push themselves and complete the full challenge in 12 hours.
- 2. Relay teams that want to boost the morale of the 3 Peakers and attack one of the three hills but not walk for 12 hours. The peak chosen will be accessed via the water stop/check point and transit to the check point will be by minibus at an allocated timeslot.
The event can be made formal, official and more memorable by each group booking in and out at the Pen-y-Ghent café in Horton - in - Ribblesdale using the antique clocking machine, by doing this you can become an official member of the 3 Peaks Yorkshire Club!
This is ideal for teams who want to complete a really rewarding challenge in just one day. We help out with all preparations providing full pre event support and a training day. On the day of the challenge we provide can transport if required.
Dates for 2012 are:
Friday 18th May
Friday 14th September
This one day challenge is only £75 per person and includes Mountain Leader and first aid cover, group insurance, training days and a certificate of achievement.
"When 11 hardy souls from Grass Roots decided we would do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks to raise money for Kidscape, I’m not sure we quite knew what we were letting ourselves in for. As the event got nearer, the team from Go Commando left us with no illusions about what we were taking on and provided us with regular, clear instructions on the necessary preparation. On the day itself, after helping us stock up with homemade chocolate brownies and banana cake, it was all about keeping to plan and hitting key milestones. Charlotte and her team led, motivated and encouraged us throughout the day and ensured we achieved our goal. It was painful, but immensely rewarding! Thanks guys." Nick, Grassroots Group
